sweeps are upon us once again. I know that there will be a lot of people out there
that disagree with me on what I'm going to say next but here it goes. Today's
episode was chock full of zoom, zoom, zoom. I really liked the way the editors
made the scenes seem quicker but adding the little bumpers of fire, flashing lights,
etc. It was kind of kicky. I think it just made the scenes flow and helped create
the air of edginess that the director was going for. I know there are lots of
ya who prefer to stick to the routine of soaps but I felt today's show branched
out and took a chance. I love that! For me the editing along with the action (fire)
scenes help keep me riveted. I can't believe how far the show has come in only
a couple of months. Everyone knows how much I loved the week of 10/19/05. That
week belonged to the writing team. This week I think that the directors and editors
deserve a nod. Here's
one that you guys won't believe. I actually felt sorry for Ryan today. Seems everyone
wants to hit the poor guy. Sure I was one of those people but Mr. Lavery is getting
smacked around a lot. And with his sudden "Gandhi" ways he's now a lover
not a fighter. Today's
show pretty much summed up what JR is
shallow and destructive. I would really
like to see Mr. Chandler accept responsibility for his actions. If the writers
follow through on this storyline it should include Babe getting sole custody of
Little Adam. I know they want to write Babe and JR as getting married but it would
serve better for them not to wed but rather have the tables turn on JR. Have Amanda
sue him and her not press charges. This way JR doesn't go to jail but loses a
chunk of his fortune to a woman he can't stand. And with JR's legal woes none
of his bought Judges would do his bidding. To lose his son to Babe would put him
on the edge. What if she dangled the child at JR for a change? I would prefer
to see JR receive what he's been dishing out. He could spiral so low that only
a miracle could save him. That's where I'd write Dixie back into the storyline.
Only instead of her embracing her loved ones I would have her not know who she
was and unlike Maria not quickly remember and reunite with her family but fall
for Tad or David on her own as a new identity. Dreaming
I'm only Dreaming!
Lol. How
about my man Zach and his unlimited kissing booth opened to all the women of Pine
Valley? Kind of interesting. October 31, 2005 Happy
Halloween! I
always feel better when this is less of a Rant and more of a joyous experience.
I loved last week. The intertwining of storylines was perfect. I really feel this
should go on the Writing Team's Emmy Reel. Nice crisp writing is always wonderful
and this was exactly that. When Ryan says, "I was Wrong", followed by
Di saying, "I was wrong" and capped by Zach saying, "I wasn't Wrong".
I was just in awe. Here are three different storylines that the writers mirrored.
Not an easy task but they made it work. The two things that were very important
in how they managed to accomplish this were the integration of so many of the
characters for the same plot point and the speed in which they carried out the
story telling. In the matter of just a few days we saw the destruction of a family,
two couples and a young man. And as always the stellar acting of this incredibly
talented ensemble completes the show. Some
other items I really liked recently were the pairing of Lily and Stuart. The two
most honest people in the entire Valley. To see them discuss what makes them different
from other people and also different from each other was amazing. Stuart has always
been one of my most favorite Residents of Pine Valley so I hope that they pair
Lily and Stuart again for something wonderful. Greenlee and Kendall, what else
can be said except that when Rebecca leaves the Valley I will be mostly sad. I'll
miss the way Alicia and Rebecca sparkle on screen. You can tell they are great
friends off screen as well as on screen. And when you throw in Terri Ivens' Simone
Torres fun and hijinks ensue. I also liked how they had Greenlee react to Ryan's
news that he selflessly sacrificed himself for her own good without really knowing
whether it was for her own good. I wanted to smack Ryan when he explained to Greenlee
that he faked his death for her own good. Who
could not be caught up in the love of Zendall these days? These two kids always
find themselves wanting each other but never really able to connect. It's the
longing and the hopeless love for each other that makes me interested. For me
the longing isn't boring to watch because in this instance I'm not looking for
instant gratification with this couple. Why you ask? Well it's because of all
of the other things going on in their lives that make their love take a back burner.
It's believable that Kendall needs protecting even if she doesn't think so and
Zach protecting her without letting her feel smothered. Now
on to Babe, Jamie, JR and Amanda. I see classic drama on the horizon for these
kids. Amanda the schemer who's actually vulnerable. Babe who loves both men for
different reasons, JR the wounded deer or viper depending how you look at it and
Jamie the boy coming into his own as a man. Still
missing some kind of storyline are Reggie and Brooke. I would really like to see
Brooke work with Tad on some investigation and get between the budding relationship
of Adam and Krystal. And how about a good old Brooke/Erica drag out fight. This
could be accomplished by having Jack help Brooke with something legal which put
them spending loads of time together late at night with Erica not really knowing
what's going on. So
I end this with saying Good Job Ms. McT and staff and PLEASE GIVE BROOKE A STORYLINE!!! End
Rant October
11, 2005 I was waiting for this rant. I really thought it was going
to go a different direction. Here I am typing this and I can't believe it. I actually
liked how the writers went with this Garrett storyline. I discovered that Garrett
was going to be killed off and I actually couldn't think how the writers could
make this work. I felt it was kind of stupid to waste a character like Garrett
and that we had no back story to grip on to the "Garrett's Evil" bandwagon
but it change for me today. Having Garrett smirk at Julia almost daring her to
pull the trigger and then to have all of her emotions and thoughts swirling around
her as she decided what to do next and then the moment she pulls the trigger and
doesn't seem to realize she did. Good writing backed by good acting. Lamman Rucker
really made this work for me in the end. He's facial expression just brought out
the badness that the character was to have possed. It also should be the catalyst
for Julia's troubles to actually really begin. I'd like to see her go more inward
and become dark. Perhaps drinking while pretending everything is okay. That leaves
her needing a savior. In this role I wouldn't want her with Zach. I think to stop
the whole Zendall romance would be a lose for the show right now especially with
the Ryan card coming up. How about JR? He's a lost soul in his own way. A relationship
with a screwed up Julia could leave Babe realizing she really loves JR or that
she can let JR go and have a life with Jamie. And his need to help Julia would
be a friction with so many characters. Adam, Babe, Tad, Zach, Jamie and would
bring in Tad and Di/xie. Just an idea. Least we forget that JR isn't Anita's favorite
person. I also enjoyed watching JR come to grips with the fact
he's got nothing in his life but Revenge. With the exception of Little A, Di/xie
and Kendall he's got very little else in his life. Later he sees Babe and Jamie
and reverts to the nasty comments but then realizes what he's doing and reaches
out to his brother. The one thing I didn't like is the whole Jamie ticked at Babe.
The two struggled for a year and half and he's just done with her. Please this
man knows that what she did was for him and Little Adam. Babe was right in what
she told him today. He's never really had to struggle in his life so he couldn't
possible understand why she makes the decision about life that she does.
October 10, 2005 I've been having a problem with the whole "Dragon"
Story. Here's Garrett a bad guy for sure but all we've seen on screen is a skeevey
pervert. This story reminds me of that episode of the Brady Bunch when Mike and
Carol are trying to explain to Bobby that Jesse James is really a bad guy and
that he murdered people and they let him stay up and watch the edited down version
of the "Life of Jesse James" where they cut out him shooting and killing
people. How is it we can spend days listening to Julia go on about Noah being
killed and exacting retribution but we don't get to see the development of Garrett
as a bad guy. Again, a fast paced story that makes no sense or just leaves the
viewers flat. So far the only murderer I've seen is Zach and that was in self
defense. I liked one fan's idea of the Dragon being Vanessa. I just don't buy
Garrett as a ruthless killer able to hid his identity all these years. I love
faster paced storylines but unfortunately the writing team has quite got it down
yet how to do it. October 5, 2005 Okay how funny was
yesterday's show? Oh yeah...it was that funny. I've been enjoying the whole Erica
thinks Kendall and Greenlee are gay stuff. When Kendall burst into Erica's office
and kissed Greenlee (see here)
I couldn't stop laughing. And then when Erica realized they were laughing at her
expense and she snaps her fingers...kudos to Ms. Lucci for being the straight
guy (no pun intended) to Kendall and Greenlee's funny man. It was original writing
for a change. Taking a chance on a gag and having the actors pull the whole thing
off. A+ Kids for finally giving me a scene I would have never expected them to
write. The Writing Team should be daring more often and give us some more of this
off the cuff never expected writing. It reminds me of when Kevin and Mac dressed
up as women on GH. Funny and very unexpected. September 30, 2005
So when is David going to stop being the janitor and back to being the doctor.
Remember the last time David was in jail. He got a reprieve because Laura English
needed a heart transplant and never went back to prison. How about Dr. Joe or
Ruth needing a special heart procedure that David technique. Then it would have
a two fold effect. David's face to face with the Martin's and they have to kiss
his butt because he's the only hope for their loved one. There would be dramatic
saving of a much loved Valleyian and we can stop seeing this dude pushing a broom.
And what if in a couple of months Jamie's doing his residency under David. That
would be a hoot and it would test Jamie's limits as a person and a doctor. Or
it could apply to Adam or JR and David is their only hope. Would they choose life
(David) or death (grudge)? Lots of possibilities for David but now the writers
need to grab onto one. And here's a pairing no one would see coming....David and
Brooke? She was once a bad girl and well he's Doctor Doom so how quirky would
that be if they suddenly found themselves attracted to each other. How many times
in real life do people date other people that their friends and family can't stand
and everyone wonders what the real attraction could possibly be. Perhaps Brooke
does an article on David for Tempo after all he has such a colorful past and if
he were to save someone "important" than it could be the catalyst that
brings these crazy kids together there by driving everyone in Pine Valley nuts
(Jamie, Tad, Babe, JR, Adam...the list is endless). September
23, 2005 I wanted to take a moment and cheer about the scenes yesterday
with Krystal and Adam. I really wasn't sure about this storyline believing that
it was going to be hokey but Ms. Bobbie Eakes changed all that yesterday with
her performance. She and David Canary seem to really be enjoying themselves and
to watch Krystal go head to head with Adam Chandler is wonderful. Kudos to Bobbie
and David. Okay now today's show...this is just STUPID! Ryan telling
a confused Jonathan that he's not bad and that he had a tumor and it wasn't because
he's a Lavery all of the horrible things he did while in Pine Valley. Ummm...he
murdered three people, shot Ryan TWICE, slapped Maggie around and drugged his
sister-in-law while framing Kendall for the crimes. How are the writers really
going to have this character come back to Pine Valley after murdering three people?
Sure the trial would make sense "Not Guilty by reason of diminished capacity".
That I get, but Ryan telling him it wasn't his fault that Jonny Boy murdered three
people one of them our beloved Edmund Grey (who was also kind of mental at the
end), I do not understand at all. In fact, I'd go as far as blaming Ryan for the
deaths of at least Steve the bodyguard and Edmund Grey. Because, if you will remember,
Bianca tried to have charges brought about on Jonathan for the whole scarefest
at the Miranda Center and when that fell through because of Ryan's influence they
tried to get Maggie to press charges against Jonathan for hitting her. With his
prior record for battery he would have gone to jail. Ryan of course got Maggie
to change her mind about the charges and promised on everything sacred that he
would/could get Jonny Boy the help he really needed. There is my evidence that
Ryan Lavery is the responsible party for at least 2 of the 3 people Jonathan killed.
(Braden was murdered by Jonathan before this point). I'm assuming the writers
will conveniently forget these scenes they wrote. Sure it's a soap but when you
make a character so awful (Billy Clyde Tuggle/Ray Gardner awful) it's going to
take a stroke of genius to write their way out of the mess they've made. Take
Janet Green (Bad guy). She terrorized her sister and threw her in a well because
of her screwed up childhood due to her mother. And she murdered Will Cortlandt,
mostly because of he deserved it and she was in actuality protecting Hayley from
being raped. Both of these offenses are redeemable in a sense because of the writing.
Will was just bad news and Natalie was a victim of Janet and Natalie's upbringing.
Some time in a psychiatric facility and a face lift and TA Da...Jane Cox....oops
Janet Green is reborn. There's a whole string of baddies with redeeming qualities
(Liza, Adam, etc.) but they were never so horrible that the writers couldn't turn
it around. So we wait and see what Jonathan's story holds. Personally I'd like
to see him not remember anything...even Ryan and Erin. Let Ryan be tormented for
awhile since he's fused his entire life to his brother. On the other
side of the fence how powerful was Danielle today! You go girl! This storyline
has lots of potential. As long as the writers stay on this path it will be great
but if they drop the ball (which always happens) they will have lost a great opportunity
to tell an important story. September 21, 2005 Was I
the only one who figured out weeks ago who the Dragon was (see August 28th's Rant)?
Surely not. It was kind of anti-climatic. I was trolling the boards and the consensus
was everyone figured that Garrett was "The Dragon". Although there were
some interesting leanings toward Madam Proteus being the Dragon. One group following
the thread through came up with an interesting twist of Leo being Kevin Sturgess.
That could have been fun. I'm not going to dump to much on this part of the storyline
because of the phenomenal acting. My one point I'd like to make is we've been
down this road before where stupid love sick cop marries criminal mastermind.
Personally I would have made bumbling Alfred "The Dragon". He's a banker,
he appears to be harmless and has a connection to Pine Valley. And since we haven't
really heard much from Alfred Van der Poole in the last couple of years he would
have endless back story potential. Oh well. How awesome did Reggie look
today. My dude is stylin'! I really liked the JR/Babe scenes as well. Very nice.
All around I'd give today's Eppy an A. Not that anyone really cares
what I have to say, lol. September 20, 2005 I know alot
of folks didn't like the way Mimi reacted yesterday but I wasn't one of them.
Unlike Jamie walking around in white coat with a stethoscope around his neck this
actually made sense. Allow me to make my point, Mimi is very selfish. Didn't she
prove this when one day when she felt she's had enough she just dumps (exactly
what she did) Dani's stuff at the front door of Derek after Dani came to visit
with her father? Don't forget the scene on fourth of July when Mimi and Livia
had it out in the park when Dani overheard that Mimi didn't marry her father until
she was sure he was the father of her child. So we know that Mimi is definitely
a "Me" person. If you don't believe me have you noticed it's in her
name (Me-Me)....TWICE! I really enjoyed the scenes yesterday, from Garrett changing
the story around to Mimi asking why Danielle would want to destroy her life to
Dani alone and crying. This last part leaves a big door open for any sort of coupling.
Whether it's Josh, Dani or some other guy to be named in the parking lot. And
the residual mess to follow Garrett and Mimi's wedding should be really interesting
if written right. So what didn't work for me recently? Thanks for asking.
It's still the Jamie/Babe thing. It's a craw in my dad. Let me take you back to
the night that Kirsten Woods was murdered at SOS and Mimi turns on Aidan blaming
him for her witness' death and Aidan pointing out that her sloppy police skills
by running after Ms. Woods painted a red flag on the young girl and that's what
got her killed. Perfectly written and executed. Even the Amanda/Aidan scenes afterward
were right on the money. The bonding and then Aidan pushing her away. What was
stupid was Jamie showing up to 'rescue' the distraught maiden from big bad Aidan.
Jamie had just come from Babe's room at the Pine Cone where he was smart enough
to figure out what Babe was up to but unfortunately when JR comes into the picture
his brain must melt or something. He turns on Babe about two seconds after his
brother walks through the door and the next time we see the young stud he's playing
hero to Amanda, saving her from the awful Aidan Devane. Hello! Does this make
any sense?? Jamie knows what Babe is up to with dumping him so he can get his
money and what she's doing with JR but when it comes to Amanda we can believe
these two could ever fall in love and I get this nagging feeling that the writers
are setting up the storyline to do just that. I guess it's to be the old story
of Jamie sees a side of Amanda that no one else does. This kind of story works
best when the two in it are both baddies (Liza/Adam). Jamie's got to much of a
hero complex to fit this build. I liked it better when he was being Tad the Cad,
Jr. Was anyone else expecting Julia to accidentally shot herself when
she slid that loaded, cocked weapon into her pants...YIKES! Talk about a person
who desperately needs a gun safety class! September 12, 2005
Oh my word how could I not Rant today? Ryan gets the news that his brother
isn't insane...he's got a brain tumor. Oh my could Greenpea been right all along?
I would swear that Ryan's lack of brains could only have been brought on by drug
abuse as a teenager because this guy is an idiot! What happened to the Ryan of
yore? Where has he gone, cause I haven't seen him since his brother lied his way
into town? Excuse me...but where was Jonathan getting the prescription for his
Anti-psychotic medicine? Sure I know what you are going to say...Scooter, he got
it when he was sprung from the looney bin. Well Scooter just ain't buying the
notion that Jonny got sprung from the nut house all simple and the doctor says..."
yes my crazy patient who has anger issues not dealt with, be free to rampage against
society once again for I know your visitor person will take good care of thee!"
I don't think so scooter! When the doctor asks Erin and Ryan if Jonathan could
have sustained a head injury Erin explains an incident when Patrick hit Jonathan
and he was unconscience most of the day and their parents didn't take him to the
doctor. Ryan immediately says...it was after I left....I wasn't there to take
the beatings anymore...Wow talk about EGO. Of course everything must be because
Ryan left. I sure hope this storyline changes to be the real reason Jonathan got
smacked around by Patrick more than the others because he's not really a Lavery.
Moving on.... Why James you look like a doctor reading those medical
charts it would seem that saving Amanda from her arrhythmia has allowed you to
skip Med school all together. Hurrah, Marty McFly has brought the Delorian to
fly you through time. Viola you are a Doctor! Or maybe Jamie stayed at a Holiday
Inn last night? Jamie has no business in a patients room let alone reading a chart.
Anita is a licensed PA where as Jamie is a licensed...oh yeah College Student
who thinks being the grandson of the Chief of Staff is enough to let him play
doctor. Okay he's going to follow around his Grandpa to learn the ropes and be
all doctor like. First, Little A is under a pediatrician's care not a GP like
Joe and second, office help like Jamie would never have a stethoscope around their
necks. I know it's a soap but Yikes! Personally if you want to fast forward a
storyline at least have it make sense. They could have had a celebration of the
Martin family with Jamie's acceptance into PVU School of Medicine. Then say in
two months be a 4th year Med student working at the hospital he could be elevated
to Resident very shortly after that. See the flow and it in record time. Remember
when I ranted about quicker storylines and then when they sort of happened I had
to add an addendum saying they need to make a little sense...well this is how
in the Soap World the writers can have it make sense. I love the Kendall/Greenlee/Zach
scenes. Most especially when Kendall brought up Miranda to Zach and then reminded
him his parenting skills have been horrible. AHHHH....I feel better....End
Rant September 11, 2005
What's
with Josh's hair? Rock band wannabe? Dude Benji from Good Charlotte wants his
look back! And I think he's wearing eyeliner...not that there is anything wrong
with that. I
noticed it's like spikey hair day on AMC. Josh, Jonathan, Buzz cut Ryan. And then
there are Zach and Tad who are in desperate need of cut. Go figure. And my last
crisis of wardrobe proportions is what's with the men and their three buttons
unbuttoned. Even Tad's into the unbuttoned look and this is strange for me because
the man is wearing a sport jacket. Wouldn't it make more sense to have them wearing
no shirt than this look? So this week was filled with some powerful stuff.
Let me start with Little A almost drowning. This has Emmy Reel all over it for
Jacob and Alexa. I really love the Babe/JR scenes but I kind of feel let down
with the Babe/Jamie story. What should have been a love for all the ages fizzled
like a bad fuse on a firecracker. Short recap...Jamie slept with Babe,
obsessed about Babe after discovering she's married to his brother. Oh yeah stole
a baby and kept the truth from Binx about her child and hit the road with his
true love. That's not enough you say, well how about living in a hovel watching
the life being sucked out of you by your brother but Jamie does it because he
loves Babe. How could a love like that die? Well Babe cried for about 60 seconds
and Jamie's disappointment in his fiancé lasted about as long. He's "having
fun" with Amanda...a girl who would sleep with Erica Kane to get what she
wanted...MONEY/POWER. Babe and Jamie run into each other and it's like "yeah,
hey". I spent TWO count them TWO years invested in their love story and the
pay off was this???? Color me cheated! I really thought we'd see the two sneaking
around the Valley for stolen moments while they got one over on old JR. NOPE!
Instead Babe's plan is to remarry JR to get custody of her son. Well Sweetie as
far as I can tell you could have gotten joint custody of Little A with the near
drowning incident. Alexa has great chemistry with whomever she's paired with but
I would have preferred to see Jamie and Babe sticking it to JR and Amanda by still
having the love. My other issue with this storyline...Jamie is paling
around PV with the woman who admitted she tried to dupe him and Babe because JR
was paying her. How in the world could they write Jamie so stupid. He shouldn't
be a doctor he should be a cop in Pine Valley because they are usually the dumbest
folks in town. Love, Love, Loving Greenlee and Kendall's storyline. Alicia
and Rebecca are so much fun to watch. Greenlee singing "Having My Baby"
will go down as one of the funniest and coolest moment on AMC in my book.
I know the writers are all about "Adventure and Mystery" but I
personally would like to see some LOVE. There is no couple on the show right now
to cheer for. Dixie's not Dixie...she's Di so I don't care if she's with Tad and
if he's stupid enough to hook up with this scam artist I've lost interest in Tad.
Brooke has been relegated to "Jamie's Mom" status which pretty much
sucks for Julia Barr and the rest of us who were dangled the carrot of an Adam/Brooke
Romance. The writers do know that Brooke is Editor of Tempo Magazine and "The
Dragon" would make a good investigative plot, Right? Erica and Jackson are
the old married couple and we never see them be romantic because "New Beginnings"
is all Erica can think about right now. Ryan's "Dead". Zach and Kendall
are almost "sort of kinda not" together, that is until Zach's latest
obsession gets in the way and that obsession's name is Julia. Krystal and Adam
will be fun to watch but there is no real love with those two just fun. Jamie
and Amanda...please give me a break. JR and Babe...Been there done that. So what
I'm saying is what I'm always saying...I'm tired of couples who fizzle out...storylines
that go no where but taking a year or two to tell and well I'm just frustrated.
So all I'm asking of the writers is DAZZLE ME folks. I guess it could be worse...have
you seen Days of Our Lives recently...nothing at all makes sense over in Salem.
If I were writing the show here's what I would do:
- Brooke
would be writing a story on The Dragon, Witness Protection and the death of Noah
Keifer. I'd like to see her working with Jackson on this there by brining Erica
in on the action. And don't forget the Brooke/Erica history.
- Simone
would be getting into trouble again (getting arrested) while trying to help Tad
(her ex-lover) which wouldn't sit well with Ethan
- Kendall
gets drunk and has sex with Ryan and Zach in a small window. Is the Baby Greenlee
and Ryan's or Kendall's and someone she slept with.
- JR
and Di face off when she tells him she is his aunt not his mother. And I'd want
JR to be his nasty self absorbed self but not have Di shrivel up and go away but
take on the Chandler's.
- The
Dragon makes an attempt to take over Cambias Industries. Maybe revealing something
troubling for Ethan and Zach.
- The
Dragon turns out to be Winifred or Alfred Van Der Poole (this would be fun and
surprising all at the same time).
- And
last but not least Jamie financially ruins JR but has the power to give him back
his fortunes but only if Babe gets custody of Little A. Or Jamie could catch JR
in a compromising situation and he could hold it over his head.
|
But I'm not writing the show. So I just sit and watch like everyone else.
End Rant. August 30, 2005 Um what's with Jamie jumping
into bed with Amanda? It would have made more sense if he was drunk first but
no he goes to the bank and then rushes over to the boarding house with his deck
and gives it to the one person who's done nothing but try to breakup his relationship
with Babe? Call me crazy but why? And Babe's plan to marry JR? As delightful as
I think that would be right now it doesn't make sense. Hey I'm all in favor of
fast paced stories but how about at least two days lead up because this is just
stupid. Babe formulated a plan during her crying jag over losing Jamie? She and
Jamie weathered all of their hardships but now they are both just so willing to
move on. And Jamie has one flashback montage and he's fine with his new life?
Okay if the writers say so but I'm left scratching my head. Oh and what about
JR major hurt on...now that Jamie's dumped Babe his revenge plot is over? Okay
on to my second Rant. Amanda honey...if you accept money after having
sex with someone and in your case that would be twice you've done it. Well honey
that makes you a high price prostitute. When she told Jamie yesterday that she
doesn't have sex for money I nearly laughed. It's funny because she had sex with
JR but took his money afterward for "other work" and after Jamie gets
the slap and tickle he gives her all the money he had brought with him and then
they eventually had sex again. Point is she took the money so a hooker by any
other name is still a hooker. Let me just say that Jenny Gardner came from no
money and hello she got a JOB. When Tad Martin had sex with Marian for gifts it
was clear that he was painted as the Gigolo and he didn't like the feeling so
he stopped but there was only his vain attempt at "I'm not a gigolo"
but deep down Tad knew the truth. Here endeth my rant. August
28, 2005
Finally
I got my happy moment and it came last week with Jamie telling off JR (see
here). No violence just plan old words that struck to the core of who JR is
right now. What I loved too was that JR really believed that with Babe out of
Jamie's life he could have his brother back like old times before Babe came between
them not even giving a thought to the truth that he's been so horrible to his
brother and his ex-wife that Jamie might never forgive him, Classic Moment. I'm
also glad that we are going to see the storylines pickup now because that summer
lull was a trip to Boringville.
I wanted to share something with everyone that was bothering me fashion wise.
Do you think Julia (seen here) meant for this look?
After seeing ABC Soap Secrets on Friday I think I know who "The Dragon"
is? Only time will tell if I'm right. And on a sad note Scott Kinsworthy aka Josh
Madden has been replaced. It's a shame because I really liked him. So in the coming
weeks look for Josh to have a new face and probably a new personality to go with
it.
August 19, 2005 I loved the scenes with Di and JR yesterday.
Everything she said is the frustration I've felt watching JR the last year and
a half. When she told him that he should be happy but he's not was right on the
mark. After all he has his son and that's what he tells everyone is the only thing
he needs. And then when she did the scenario of 50 years from now the three of
them are all living together and Little Adam is more miserable than JR was at
his age. Zing!! I love Jacob Young but the writing for JR has been like watching
a echocardiogram during a heart attack. If the writers want to write him as the
worst version of Adam so be it but at least Adam had like 8 wives and more children
to balance out his stories. Not to mention Stuart to soften him when they made
Adam to mean. How about when Adam was married to Liza and she locked him in the
panic room and got Stuart to pretend to be Adam for the board meeting. And those
two were married alot of times (3 I think). JR needs something to balance him.
Otherwise JR is nothing but a one sided angry, sadistic, petulant child and that
can get old after watching it for 1-1/2 years (JR was cool when he first came
to town). Jacob Young is so talented, so why not let him branch out with the character
a little. I love the Krystal/Adam pairing but I'm not sure where that
leaves Brooke. I think it's time to bring back the old Brooke and have her go
head to head with Erica more because Susan and Julia have such chemistry and there
is tons of history between the two characters. Last but not least I read
that Scott Kinsworthy's out as Josh which makes me kind of sad because I think
he had such potential. So we wait to see scenes with the new Josh Madden.
August 10, 2005 Ah the Rant that never goes away! A show
of hands for those who wanted to smack JR today! He's like a sadistic child who
pulls the wings off of butterflies. Today's scenes were fine but I've had enough
of this petulant child and there should after 1 YEAR of watching this garbage
be some kind of retribution for the CRIMES he's committed. Sure messing with Babe
isn't a crime but yesterday I listed JR's felonies. I'm so BORED and TIRED of
this same old childish JR. He has no edge he's a 6 year old trapped in a grown
man's body. JR couldn't possibly love his son because he wields him like an ax
ready to chop off anyone who doesn't agree with his childish view of life. He's
threatened to cut off Babe, Jamie, Tad, and Adam from Little Adam's life for no
other reason than he can. He whines about what's his when really he's never accomplished
one dang thing on his own. His trust fund was a gift from his father, the house
he lives in is his father's. In fact, with all of the money that JR has expended
in trying to screw Jamie I'm surprised he's go anything left. What's amazing too
is the fact he can use Chandler Enterprises fortunes for his own personal whims.
Why is this amazing? Well one, Cambias is the major shareholder of CE and one
would think the board of directors might consider this type of spending frivolous
and detrimental to the company. Here's what I want to see for JR's future. First,
one of his vendetta moves backfires and either hurts Little Adam or Di/xie, since
these are the only two people JR really cares about. This would also expedite
Babe having more time with her son. Two, I'd like to see him lose most of his
money and before this happens do something Adam won't forgive him for and be cut
off from everything he's know. Sounds harsh but perhaps writing for this type
of Character will be edgier. Oh and Yes I know that this is a SOAP, lol!
August 9, 2005 Blah, Blah, Blah. This is what I hear when JR whines about
Jamie being the evil man because he stole his son. Blah, Blah, Blah is what I
hear when Ryan utters any words. I'm Charlie Brown and they are the teacher. Let
me tackle JR first. Jamie and Babe made a mistake in trying to keep Little Adam
from JR and they've paid for their stupidity. But lets look at the JR that made
them take on this decision. JR drugged Babe with birth control pills and upgraded
to narcotics that by the way almost killed his wife. Then just for fun he kidnapped
his own child TWICE. Let's not forget the time he pushed Babe into going out with
his brother and her girlfriends and then portrayed her as an unfit parent. Now
let's look at what JR has done to Jamie. He's set up Jamie for drugging Babe,
then got him stabbed while he was in prison when he ran in just in time to make
Seth aware that Jamie was setting him up with a wire conveniently before Seth
incriminated him. Oh yeah remember the the time he hit Jamie in the head with
a pipe or the time he dropped a motorcycle on him. Least we forget the fact that
he pushed Bianca off a balcony (supposedly by mistake). He's paid off colleges
to not accept Jamie and lets see what else; he constantly stops by the old garage
to torment the happy couple. This writing is annoying! It's repetitive and dull.
This garbage should have been wrapped up by now or a twist added where JR is still
in love with Babe and competitive with his brother instead we listen to JR attack
Jamie and Babe and call the Police (He must have them on speed dial.) The only
worthwhile thing to watch with this trio lately is when Babe chained JR up. Personally
I'd like Babe to break up with Jamie and Jamie hunt JR down and beat his ass then
take his money from Aunt Phoebe (another unbelievable bit of tripe) and destroy
the Chandlers. On a side note this garbage that Jamie's always wanted to be a
doctor is annoying too because I remember my favorite former Hacker James Edward
Martin and it would have made more sense for him to become a CEO. If they need
another doctor in Pine Valley it's time to recast Maggie Stone or Jamal Cudahey!
Now on to Ryan/Rick. Ryan says goodbye to his former self by shaving his
head???? I would have preferred to see him dye it blonde because now with his
leather jacket and shaved locks he looks like a skinhead. Nice image. Moving on...Why
oh why did the writers decide to make Ryan stupid, and not only stupid but crazy
and stupid. I totally understood the temper because Ryan's always had a temper
but he's gone off the edge of sanity. Jonathan's crazy for a reason, Ryan's crazy
just because he can be, there's a difference. Other than the tremendous
performances by all the actors these long drawn out stories to nowhere are annoying
and become a waste of time. How hard is it to make a point, draw the line and
follow to conclusion. I'm not a fan of the characters saying the same thing over
and over and over for three days. Say it once follow it up with a flashback if
you have to but each day the story should be moving not lingering in a pit of
tar! Ah...I feel so much better, lol. Anyway drop
me a line and let me know what you think. I love to hear what others have
on their minds. July 30, 2005 Yep I've got that itch again,
lol. This whole Ryan evolution has got me twisted. I was watching a show from
just one year ago when Ryan was so blissfully happy he wanted to have a baby with
Greenlee (and this after being shot). Now fast forward less than a year and our
Ryan goes from hero to psycho and not wanting Greenlee to have his child. Even
telling his wife she must terminate her pregnancy if they are to be together.
This is all because his brother Jonathan had sever mental problems due to his
father's abuse? Um...surely I'm not following the logic behind this writing. Especially
since the polls I've seen reflect a lack of luster for this storyline and also
from what I read about the upcoming storyline for this tortured couple things
are going to get worse. I could accept Ryan with a darker side. The storylines
over the years constantly dealt with Ryan's abuse as a child. From Chris Stamp
having killed his drug dealing father to Ryan's talking about the "blue sky
days" with his mother but the direction of Ryan has gone over the cliff.
He used to have a hero complex now he's just crazy. Ryan has a new obsession...finding
his sister Erin. Well goody for him. Meanwhile back at the lodge the rest of characters
sit back and grieve leaving us with weeks of mopey citizen reflecting on the "real"
Ryan Lavery and how he really deep down was a great guy. YAWN...oh sorry. It would
have been more interesting a story seeing Ryan get shrunk by the same shrink who
did nothing to help Jonathan and then discovering that it was the shrink that
helped make Jonathan a psychopathic killer do to some sort of programming. This
also gives an out for Jonathan who would not have understood the drastic measures
he took in killing his family. Oh and wouldn't it be cool if this nut case shrink
turned out to be Patrick Lavery who wasn't really killed by Chris Stamp but actually
submerged in some kind of government protection program only to come back one
day and wreck havoc on his now adult children. Here's what else I'd like
to see in way of a storyline/s. What if Adam suddenly had a hate on for JR. Of
course JR would have to do something so despicable that he would want revenge
on his own son. Or I'd like to see Peter Cortlandt be SORAS'd and be a thorn in
JR's side reigning the Cortlandt/Chandler Feud. I think the JR and Jamie story
could be pretty powerful but all of the power is in JR's corner...AS ALWAYS, yawn.
And frankly the only amusement has been when Amanda brought JR to his knees when
she grabbed his ho-ho's. For a 1-1/2 JR has run rough shot over everyone he comes
across and on friday he practically cried when Kendall brushed him off about getting
Bianca to give him his company back...please...get a job sponge boy, besides it's
your father's company late to the game guy. He's a petulant child instead of an
adult to be reckoned witn. Jacob Young has been amazing in this role but the writers
either make him a borderline nut case or he's whining about what he feels is his.
JR has no dimension. He's constantly in the shadow of Jamie and Babe and Jacob
deserves the writing to go with his talent. JR's whole world now is Dixie which
is kind of weird since he's a grown man now but who knows perhaps I'll be surprised
with what the writing team has in store for JR. Was anyone else but
me been thinking that Jamie has an awesome case of Discrimination against PV Hospital
and not to mention it's board of directors? And since when does the board decide
who gets hired in a hospital unless it's the doctors. Jamie would be hired by
the HR department on the recommendation of it's chief of staff for a position
the chief has created. And how weird was it that Palmer was so intent on Amanda
signing the paper to release the hospital for Jamie treating her. Um...he only
brought her to the hospital he didn't actually order tests and give her an examination.
I'm stump how Jamie has failed to turn the tables on the Presidents of the colleges
that JR has bribed after all his father is a private detective instead Jamie accepts
his fate as JR's whipping post. Where's the imagination? He couldn't really be
the child of Tad and Brooke because neither of them would settle for mediocrity.
Next week brings excitement with the arrival of Julia and her impending adventures.
July 18, 2005 I felt a Rant coming on...and here it goes, lol. This
Ryan losing his mind thing...I'm not a fan. But hey I know there are fans out
there and if someone's interested cool. Ryan's only problem is Ryan. He went from
Hero/Good Guy to whiny primadonna. Personally, I think it's a waste of Cam Mathison's
talent. The Fight Club story could have worked for me if Ryan wasn't obsess with
stupid stuff. And clearly this couple that was so filled with love crashed, burned
and there is very little wreckage. I do love the bringing Kendall and Greenlee
closer and the special relationship that Zach and Kendall have...it's fun to watch.
Also as those who read my rant know I'm a tad obsessed with the fact that the
writers didn't look at the past storylines concerning Ryan's father. I was always
confused with the fact that Ryan's sibs all have the last name of Lavery. Just
a quick recap for those who don't know my pet peeve here it goes...Ryan's father
was once John Ryan Curry back in 2003 but then the new writers have him as Patrick
Lavery. When Anna came to town it was explained that Ryan's mother's maiden name
was Lavery and she was a cousin of Anna's deceased husband Duke. Fast forward
to 2004/5 and they are the Lavery Family. Jonathan, Braden and Erin all share
the Lavery name. Very interesting. And Chris Stamp discovered that he was Ryan's
father when he discovered due to John Ryan's date of death that Ryan was his son.
Yes it's true that I'm the only one bothered by all of this inconsistency but
hey maybe there's like one other person out their that remembers too.
I am very happy the writers are softening JR. He was way to mean. I also love
the twist to his story. It seems the writers are leaning toward JR hating/competitive
with Jamie more than hating Babe which is so great because the Cane/Abel story
will be interesting to watch and have infinite shelf life. What I'd like to see
is Jamie break Aunt Phoebe's will and give JR a little payback. Jamie's been eating
everything JR has done to him because he must so wouldn't it be nice to see Jamie
turn the tide a little. Watching these brother's deal with their past issues and
the future issues will be a treat. You know what would be kicky...if JR fell in
love with Babe again. If she gets more face time with Little Adam then the two
would be spending more time together and it would be an awesome triangle. Throw
in a jealous Amanda who's always on the outside looking in and you've got fire
works. JMHO :) July 10, 2005 Yeah Krystal got sprung from the
pokie! Orange is so not the new pink! I have to say I was thrilled with Friday's
episode. It kind of brought all my needling points together. First off, how happy
am I that Krystal is out of the big house and out of that horrible orange suit?
Probably as happy as ya'll! Now the possibilities are endless. The writers can
now get started on the storyline with Tad and Krystal...does he really love her?
Can he give up Dixie? And how about David getting screwed over by Di/xie? If she
does turn out indeed to be Dixie this is the perfect gotch ya to David for ruining
her life with her family. Sure David saved her life in the literal sense but he
did ruin her home life with is obsession of her. It cause Tad to do something
so desperate (bring Leslie back to town) that it destroyed his marriage and it
tainted her relationship with not only JR but Jamie. Nice clean writing last week.
I'm just having a lovefest with the second half of the week's shows. I'm
digging the Reggie/Dani/Josh triangle. These two kids needed something to jostle
their relationship. Now they've got a two fold story working here. First is the
triangle and second is the fact her Mother wants her back and why now all of the
sudden? I'm also thinking that Garrett isn't the kindly new man in her mother's
life that we've seen. Now we wait to see if the writers give us back story.
OMG! Who else wanted to smack Erica on friday??? This is so Erica Kane. Remember
when she was the pill popping host of "The Cutting Edge" and she blurted
out Maria and Edmund's troubles for ratings? I love this side of Erica. She gets
so excited about helping others, of course she's helping others because it helps
herself and she just loves "Helping". Even though the poor victims of
her plot to help usually end up destroyed, humiliated or beaten down. Like when
she wanted to help her good friend Dixie reclaim her lost life by having her on
"New Beginnings". What a better way to come back from the dead than
on her new show! Yes it's true Ms. Kane is HIGH on success! lol. July
5, 2005 Ah ha, she says to herself as she begins another Rant! I must
say I'm digging the show right now. The Danielle/Josh complication in the Reggie/Danielle
lovefest is perfect. Mimi having parental issues with her daughter not respecting
her and getting grief from her ex-husband (Derek) and ex-sister-in-law (Livie).
Great use of history here. Can I tell you all how happy I am to see the writers
finally giving us an African-American family with a storyline. So the next step
is to give Derek a sweetie. Poor Derek is where Jackson was a couple of years
ago. Everyone's friend but never had a love interest. And the teen storyline has
kicked off as well which is great. Good use of beach as the set. Loving Reggie
in the hero roll and if the writers go all out on Mr. Porter Montgomery it would
be nice to see one of his troubled biological sisters come pay him a visit. It
would really shake things up and we could get a chance to see Michael Jordan shine
dramatically. Oh now I go back to the Ryan/Greenlee storyline. I was
thinking about it more because the whole storyline has been bothering me...a lot!
Here's my latest brain burning session. Is it me or is Ryan the dumbest person
in all of Pine Valley. Let's take it back to when everyone suspected Jonathan
of poisoning Greenpea. She told her husband...I think your brother is the one
who poisoned me. Oh no my beloved, my brother might be a little off but he loves
me therefore he loves you and would never harm a hair on your pretty little head.
Jonny smacks his girlfriend Maggie around and Ryan says...please Maggie don't
press charges against my brother for hurting you and practically ruining your
life. But Ryan....what about what Hockett did to my gal pal Binx? Please Maggie
only I know what he needs and it's not prison. So Maggie gives into Ryan and doesn't
press charges. End result...Bobby Warner is beat to a pulp, Edmund's dead, Bradon's
dead, and maybe Erin too. But Ryan knew what his baby brother needed because he
and Hockett shared the hell of their childhood. Fast forward to now...Ryan holding
the ovulation detection kit. Kendall who's is this? asks the dumbest man in the
Valley. Ah the fair Simone gives a cover story and then Kendall adds her own little
lie and viola...Ryan's still in the dark. Thank goodness! Has there been one person
who hasn't slipped with information concerning Greenlee's plan to save her husband
with a baby? The answer is NO! And how destroyed, angry and disappointed he'll
be when he discovers his wifey preggers and with his demon child no less. Ah this
is amazing. You know Ryan's so stupid he should actually be a police officer because
as a person has watched soaps for the better part of 30 years I know one thing
for sure the dumb folks in town are always the police! Here endeth the
rant. June 30, 2005 I stewed about this rant for awhile. It
seems that when I rant it's always about the same topics. Sorry. Before it was
the Baby Switch storyline that never ended and now it's the Ryan/Greenlee nightmare.
As I watched Ryan almost hit Kendall yesterday because Greenlee wants to have
his baby I wondered how far the writers will put Ryan into a corner. Let's take
this into account; the abuse as a child storyline could have been a powerful one
that so many viewers could have related too, not unlike the Gay storyline or the
rape storylines, but no we have been forced to watch Ryan become a crazy person.
Believe me when I say the acting has been wonderful as always but I'm left scratching
my head as to why make Ryan one step from going over the edge. I know the rumors
that Rebecca will be vacating the role of Greenlee sometime in the next few months
and this baby story gives her an out but what about Cam/Ryan? I give the writers
credit for using the past history of Ryan's family but they've turned a hero into
a dark and disturbed shell who will need a massive redemption. It's sort of how
they lost Jonathan (Jeff Branson). Sure we still see Jonathan in flashbacks and
haunting but Jeff is an amazing actor who's talents have been wasted on writing
his character into a wall. When you have fine villains like Adam they
are best written dastardly and always breaking the law and the hearts of those
who love them. Once you take that character to violence it's rather difficult
for the fans to a) watch it and b) to understand how their beloved character has
done a 360. As I watched Ryan eerily tell Kendall that if she's Greenlee's friend
she will continue to dissuade her friend from the baby idea or else I was left
to wonder what's he going to do if Greenlee does get pregnant? Kill her or the
baby? What is the message in this bit of writing? That Ryan once a good guy would
murder his family because he doesn't want children? Or that Ryan is becoming Patrick
Lavery? Least we forget the important difference between Jonathan and Ryan. Ryan
left home at 15 and Jonathan was left behind to absorb the violence alone from
his father. This storyline made sense in the decent into madness plus Jonathan
was a new character. And also when Braden raped Kit Montgomery Ryan's way of dealing
with his families evil doings was to go to prison so that a Lavery paid for the
crimes committed. This action seems more noble then crazed don't ya think?
Last issue of the day...Tomorrow marks the beginning of July and Ms. McT
promised romance this summer...so where's the love already???? June 23,
2005 First rule of Fight Club...Don't talk about Fight Club. Sure don't
talk about it but apparently everyone in town can sneak in, lol. Okay I'm being
overly critical of the storyline plot and I've just abused the right of sarcasm.
That being said I would have preferred a good old disease storyline but I'm probably
the only one. What can I say violence sells. How about Ryan's madness...Talk about
a guy who can't see he's got a problem and needs mental help. "I see dead
people"...umm....hello writers....rehashing storylines from two Hollywood
movies? Yeah okay. The one consistent thing in this nightmare storyline is the
acting. Rebecca and Cameron have been stellar. Here are the things that
I've really been enjoying lately. Lily has been a breath of fresh air when the
storylines haven't been that great (IMO). Yesterday's interaction of the Montgomery's
was wonderful. Jackson being the loose cannon, over protective father and Reggie
trying to be the voice of reason even though he's thinking the same thing as his
father and Erica being the actual voice of reason. What makes this character so
wonderful are two things. Levin being the first and the second the fact that Lily
can't lie. It also gives Erica a chance to be motherly, of course in her stylish
way. And writing Sam ambiguously helps too. Is he a good kid or a bad kid or somewhere
in between? Only time will tell. I also love the interaction between
Kendall and Zach. They are learning to trust and this is interesting because their
marriage is based on business and the fact that the one certainty they know is
that they can't trust each other. This week we say goodbye to Maria.
I will miss Eva La Rue. She is an awesome actress and I'm sure will go on to new
and exciting adventures. It is a shame that the writers (old and new) constantly
dropped the ball when writing Maria. I think the fan base accepted Maria with
someone else when she was paired with Aidan Devane and was someone else but the
story became force Maria to remember so they set up a scenario that killed off
Chris Stamp (a fan favorite) and dumped us in the middle of a convoluted back
tracking story with Maria rushing into Edmund's arms and just dropping Aidan.
Then it was Zach coming to town and Maria not telling the truth to her husband
about her past that, oh by the way, she was Maureen Gorman and entirely different
person then. And least we forget the amazing chemistry between Maria and Zach.
When Edmund was forced by the writers into the wheelchair it was evident that
they had no idea what to do with Edmund and Maria and so AMC has lost two great
actors John Callahan and Eva La Rue due to poor writing and/or execution of story.
Sometimes there is such a race to bring on new characters to "recharge"
the Valley that the writers forget that with characters like Edmund there is history
to pull from which leads way to great storylines if only they think about it.
June 22, 2005 Well I know I complain alot but today is different.
I know I'm not allows happy with the writing but the one thing that has been constantly
fun to watch is when the dialogue is snappy and fun. Simone has some of the best
lines written. I also enjoy when the writers try to incorporate the history of
the show into the current plots. Like Sam getting in touch with his biological
side. I'm just anxious I guess, for the storylines to kick off. In the Soap Mags
Ms. McT has promised romance this summer color me cynical but I hope for the best.
And who cool was it to see VAL today. So cool that I'm working on a
gallery just for Val! June 20, 2005 I haven't been updating
the Synopsis but I'm still watching the show. I realized last week that here we
are diving into the summer storylines...or are we? The show is floundering again
because of lack of direction. I do realize that the writing goes in cycles but
this is kind of ridiculous. Sure they lost a lot of cast members but this wasn't
sudden. It's not like one day these cats decided to just walk off the set leaving
the show high and dry. IMHO there is no love on the show either. Where's
the romance, the tortured love? Let us break down the active couples. Jamie and
Babe, well these crazy kids are working so much that they haven't even had time
to take down the hubcaps that darn the walls of their humble abode. Sure they
smooch every once in awhile but because of lack of story it's been yawnful at
best. David's a janitor and Krystal are in jail. It's time to free both of these
characters. If you can SORAS a child then you can SORAS 10 years in prison. The
other couple in town is Greenlee and Ryan and frankly who cares if these two crazies
every make their way back to each other. She's obsess with having his baby and
he's doing the he-man rage thing. Both are stupid storylines. Where's Lysistra
Schwartz when you need her? I guess you can call Zach and Kendall a couple but
we already know there is no love. Amanda jumps from person to person as does Kendall.
Alicia Minshew has proven time and again that she has chemistry with whom ever
they pair her up with. So give Kendall some romance. And if rumors are true they
should start giving some time to Simone because when/if Rebecca leaves the show
things will need to be already in place. Remember when Carlos and Simone were
friends...the writers embarked on a storyline that possibly she was the girl rescued
by Carlos or something to that effect. Perhaps it's time to discover what makes
Simone tick besides sex. Hello when is the teen storyline kicking in?
I'm envisioning the July Prom of JR and Bianca. It's almost July 1 and all we've
had is Reggie and Danielle slowly peel each others close off on their way to making
love. Perhaps these two should watch General Hospital and see how Georgie and
Dylan did it. One last tinker on my Rant gone boring. Jamie and Babe
live in the Garage apartment. Sure these crazy kids are busy with life's dramas
but the hubcaps on the wall? Sure Jamie wants to make it on his own but the least
he could do is allow his millionaire parents buy him some furniture or paint the
place or I don't know take down the damn hubcaps? Babe's father is also very wealthy...David
couldn't score for the Valley Inn like he did for Maggie? Strange is all and strange
plagues my little brain. So here endeth my Rant. June 7, 2005
First I want to say I love the new sets. Hopefully the Youths will be spending
some quality time hanging out at the new Yacht Club or the beach. And how about
Dr. Madden's Clinic. I'm wondering if it's located in the same building as "New
Beginnings". Anyway here's my confusion. Did Erica and Jackson moor their
yacht straight into Pine Valley? Because I live in Pennsylvania and unless you
come up the Delaware River there is no direct connection to the Atlantic Ocean.
But then again Vanessa set Jake and Greenlee out to see on a leaky boat that they
ended up being marooned on a tropical Island so I guess Erica and Jack's yacht
could be at the yacht club right off the ocean. Second thing bothering me is...didn't
Adam own the Fertility Clinic that Liza was inseminated at? If so when exactly
did Dr. Greg Madden purchase it? These are the kinds of things I need to know
the back story too. I'm still grouchy where JR is concerned. Let's take
yesterday show as an example. He's practically on the verge of tears when Kendall
tells him that Zach isn't fighting for Cambias. After all she did promise to give
him back Chandler Enterprises. Today he grovels at the feet of Ethan Cambias and
tells him that if it was years ago Kendall would have been burned at the stake.
Does this young man have no pride? Has this brat every had to work for anything.
He comes off as Gilligan in a boardroom filled with Donald Trump types. He ran
the company...sure...but this is a company that was built from the ground up by
Adam, a man who came from Poverty and made billions and had vowed to build a bigger
stronger venture when he company was taken from him. JR has only managed to be
obsequious to whoever has controlled Chandler. Also to my amazement this high
school drop out managed to step in and run Chandler Enterprises without so much
as a blink from it's board members. But getting back on point. JR becomes agitated
and begins lashing back at Kendall telling her he'll make her help him get back
his company. Zach steps in and JR who is still angry tells Kendall that when Ethan
grounds her into dust he will be the one who helps her out in the end. Granted
this type of behavior is typical of the character but WHEN OH WHEN will JR actually
pay for his crimes. The Writers paint Junior as the victim. At least that's how
it appears from where I sit. Babe is paying for what she did, so is David, Krystal,
Jamie and Tad. But JR isn't because why? Because his son was taken from him? Let
us run down JR's crimes against the citizens of Pine Valley...He bought drugs
from Seth the Dealer which he feed to his wife that almost killed her. He bribed
a guy to set up his brother Jamie and his wife Babe. He got his brother stabbed
and hit him on the head with a pipe. He fed his wife birth control pills. He took
over his father's company knowing it would annoy his father (okay not a crime).
He shoved Bianca who fell off a balcony and then tried to run off with the baby
he knew to be hers. He's taken away Tad's PI license, Orsini Wines and Jamie's
college education and not to mention Jamie not being able to get a job anywhere
but in the garage. He uses Kendall to get his company back and he's making a prostitute
out of Amanda over a bet to destroy his ex-wife and his brother's romance. Gosh
wouldn't you say this young man has issues? But alas, JR is the victim because
his ex-wife told him his child was dead so her son wouldn't turn into the type
of rotten soulless demon that Adam Chandler, Sr. raised. I love Jacob Young and
his portrayal of JR as he is written but I wonder why the "Justice"
the show has administered is one sided?
And
that leaves me with Demento Greenlee and her less than mentally stable husband
Ryan. He has a vasectomy so he doesn't pass on the Lavery DNA she's insane with
the need to produce a baby NOW!!! This couple has joint counseling written all
over them. Ryan seems to like to flex his new found bravado these days. Throwing
things to intimidate Kendall with his new found raw untapped manly powers that
he seems to constantly tell everyone who will listen about. And the getting into
fights with any male is reminiscent of the Gorilla Cage as our local Zoo but hey
he's a man with pent up animal instincts. Or he's just plain nuts...I'm going
for the latter. I'm confused as to why no one in the Valley has explained to our
tarnished hero that his brothers didn't become psycho's because of DNA the became
psycho's because they were physically and emotionally abused by their father throughout
their lives. As Ryan has pointed out 10,000 and 1 times "He got out".
He is also constantly telling everyone that to get his marriage back on track
he's had a vasectomy to ensure that he won't turn into his father and create sociopath
children. But here's the Million Dollar question who's going to protect Greenlee
from him in this marriage? Apparently the vasectomy will do that too! So I hope
for an end to this stupid storyline that has done nothing for the viewers except
introduce Dr. Greg Madden. Here endeth my rant! May 31, 2005
This rant was building all day. I watched today's episode and I was so frustrated
I wanted to scream. What is with the writers these days. Have they forgotten what
to write and are filling the screen day after day with the same boring dialogue?
I ask because how many times can we play the same scene over only changing the
verbiage? Let me break it down as I see it. First we have Ryan, man
with a hero complex, who now is the dark raging prince because he's got this Lavery
DNA burning in him and he's a cannon waiting to explode. He's volatile and explosive.
He can't control his emotions or his rage or his urges toward violence. Really
now, and this all is because Mr. Lavery discovered he wasn't a Stamp but a Lavery?
Okay now to the fun part...HOW MANY TIMES are the writers going to make us listen
to him spew this same type of dialogue? While watching today I wondered one thing...why
didn't Kendall kick Ryan in the groin after all he would be very sensitive since
recently having his surgery. Nope instead we got to listen to yet another character
blame another person, in this case Kendall, for all that has gone wrong. BORING!!!
Let's see, Edmund blamed Zach for the destruction of his marriage. And look how
his "John Wayne" attitude worked out for him. Yep he's dead. Least we
forget what got him in the wheelchair to begin with. Anyway off point, then we
have Greenlee blaming Kendall, Kendall blaming Ethan, Erica blaming Zach, Jamie
blaming JR, JR blaming Babe and Brooke blaming....well she's not blaming anybody
but it's only a matter of time. The Blame Game is over used. And from where I
sit is lazy writing. I feel this way because it's the same old stuff and there
is nothing to hook the viewers. If I were writing the show right now
and using the characters that are on the show now I would write it like this.
Jamie and Babe pretend to break up. Having Babe breakup with Jamie. Two things
happen with this storyline. First, Jamie gets his millions and after receiving
the money buys up Chandler Enterprises and tortures JR and Adam. Second we get
to have the Romeo and Juliet, the old Angie and Jesse type of storyline. The two
lovers stealing moments alone. Perhaps being aided by an alley in their love like
Reggie or Danielle. I like the Dixie's back storyline but I'd speed it up a little.
I would have Simone marry Ethan and he and Kendall be kept apart by the Newest
Mrs. Cambias and then have Kendall fall for Zach and have Ethan tormented (Heathcliff
Style) with what he can't have but is most obsessed with. I would give Dr. Joe
a health crisis that would bring together so many characters. And make it something
like Prostate Cancer to give it a social relevance. And of course he could survive
it. It's time to spring Krystal from jail. I would write her sentence is overturned
and then commuted by a higher court for some reason like the Judge that delivered
her sentence was caught in a scandal or something concerning kick backs from like
the mob. I would hook her up with the new doctor coming to town. I would have
Erica diving into her new show and her "New Beginnings" and this will
take a toll on her new marriage giving it some bumps and I would have Jackson
spending more time with Brooke which would re-ignite the old Brooke/Erica rift.
And what is with the BFF and I heart you stuff. Amanda took the time to tell Jamie
and JR that she's old enough to drink with them but apparently not old enough
to speak like an adult. One last thing....I'd let Jamie punch JR just once because
JR has been getting on my nerves. Well back to reality I'm not writing
the show so I have to suffer along until a spark is lit under the writers. One
last thing. Kudos to the make-up personal for going the extra mile concerning
details. Perhaps I was the only one to notice but there were two interesting things
the last couple of weeks. First did anyone notice the gun shot scare Jack had
on his chest? Or when Jamie took his shirt off that he had a scare where he was
knifed by Seth. What amazing detail was paid to these two issues. Bravo!!!
May 30, 2005 Today Green Pea confronted her husband about his lying
to her. No problem. What I have a problem with is that Ryan the hero can't figure
out that Jonathan and Braden became what they were because of years of abuse and
he's talking about possibly abusing his could have been but never will be children.
What's weird for me is when Ryan thought he was a Stamp all was well but now that
he's got Lavery DNA running in him he's obsessed with stopping the family line.
I get the part of him going to the "fight club" late at night but the
vasectomy storyline doesn't work for me. Well it would work for me if Greenlee
turned up pregnant anyway from the fact their protection failed. Now that would
be interesting to watch since the writers have written Ryan to be this anti-baby
dude. What if he now had to be faced with the one thing he feared more than anything
else. JMHO.
May 16, 2005
Okay
I've been watching and been going crazy. Sure it's not really a leap for me but
hey that's me. So here's my gripe. Sam
is a Martin so he rushes to Tad to inform him he is going to live with him. He
tells Tad they are blood and he can't say no. Um yeah he can
two reason
Maria
is his legal parent and two Tad isn't his blood
Tad really should have told
Sam that he too is adopted. And then Sam yelled that Kelsey and Bobby didn't get
a chance to raise him. Actually Kelsey did get a chance. Am I the only one who
remembers when Kelsey ripped Sam from Maria's arms? And then she wanted Bobby
to marry her so he could get his trust fund from Palmer and she could then hire
a nanny to take care of her kid? How come Maria didn't tell the boy right then
and there this information? Now
on to Phoebe's will. I get that Phoebe didn't like Babe and would want to save
Jamie from her because that was Phoebe but the part with JR makes no sense. Here
are my other complaints, when the lawyer read that Jamie's dream was to become
a doctor it was followed by JR making comments about it. Hello
this isn't
the first time these types of comments (in the writing) have bothered me. JR once
made them to Jamie when he got him kicked out of PVU. JR is a high school dropout!!!
Remember when he left town before graduating to be a mate on a steamer? Remember
when Stuart told Adam that JR got his GED? Well I do and it's driving me nuts!!!
Jacob
Young is so good a playing JR and working the material that he's given but I just
can't stand JR right now. It's not like when he was scheming after "Bess"
was born this is now violent and maniacal and I've already covered why I feel
this way in my last rant so I'll move on. Here's
my last item. If Jamie wanted to be a doctor why didn't he go to his WEALTHY parents
and tell them of his dream? I mean they were already paying for PVU. I mean if
he has a dream of becoming a doctor (say like Maggie) you take pre-med (say like
Maggie). But apparently it must have been more like a daydream than an actual
dream one would actually fulfill. And I go back to his WEALTHY parents. Am I the
only person who remembers when Laura needed a heart transplant and that couple's
son was brain dead and Brooke gave them a check for $1 million dollars? It turned
out that the heart wasn't a match and she was so upset at what she had put the
people through she told them to keep the money and start and scholarship in their
deceased child's memory. And hello
Tad inherited all that is Orsini. Even
if JR took the winery away from him the Orsini family had loads of money. Which
then leads me to an off shoot
there is no way JR could have taken over a
private company like Orsini
any way the point is Tad's WEALTHY too!
May 10, 2005 I've
been reading in SOD and SID that Phoebe leaves the bulk of her estate to Jamie
with JR as executor. My initial reaction is "are the writers on crack?"
But I have learned to take a wait and see approach to the show these days and
believe me this isn't easy. I
do want to say this
Phoebe, who always protected her own and was about keeping
to the old customs would have never set up a trust like that. She would never
have put Jamie's wishes to be a doctor in the hands of the one person who has
tried destroying a member of her family. She never trusted Adam Chandler but she'll
put her great-nephew's future in the hands of the one person who hates him right
now? This to me makes no sense. But it is the job of the writers to write storylines
that will play out of weeks to come so I see their plot point in writing it the
way they have even though I'm thrilled with it. My
frustration comes to a head with this JR stuff. I know that the writers are on
their way (hopefully) to getting JR to the point that there is some justice for
what he's done to everyone. I go back to the Baby Switch Storyline. Sure keeping
his son from him was bad but I feel that they've written JR to be a coward not
a champion. Here's my point. JR has put Bianca in a coma. Gotten his brother stabbed,
nearly killing him with a blunt trauma to the head and oh now he's dropped an
800 lbs. Motorcycle on him, as he takes his wrath out on Jamie. Why
well
because Jamie can't fight back or Babe loses her son. He doesn't take David or
Tad head on or try to physically attack them like he does Jamie and this irks
me. And now TPTB are putting this maniacal menace in charge of Jamie's future?
Here's
my other issue with this soon to be storyline. Jamie's got a dream to be a doctor.
Well isn't that special and suddenly shocking to all. And Phoebe wants him to
achieve his dream so she sets in motion a scenario of failure. She ties his dream
to his love for Babe? This guy stole a baby for because he loves Babe and has
sustained the wrath of JR (from getting kicked out of school to not being able
to get a job) and he's all of the sudden going to give up his lady love for a
dream he never shared with anyone but Phoebe? Umm
color me skeptical. So
I wait and see what unfolds and hope for the best. April 28,
2005 I know what you are thinking...she's ranting again! It's because
I'm a tad bothered by the sudden obsession Greenlee has concerning having a baby.
I mean it just doesn't fit the story. Psycho brother kills Rapist brother then
almost kills Hero brother and friends. Hero brother shoots psycho brother and
Hero's wife wants to start a family the next day? I know the writers are trying
to use this as a catalyst to give Greens and Ryan some bumps in their marriage
but the timing makes no sense. And in yesterday's episode she's tracking her ovulation?
What would make more sense is if Ryan wonders the streets, possibly even the streets
of Center City and he runs into a trouble youth (teenager preferably) and gets
said troubled youth out of jam, brings the kid back to Pine Valley and insisting
that the little Mrs. be as happy as he is that together the two of them can "save"
this bad seed. It would allow Ryan to retain his "Hero" status and help
him with his abandonment of Jonathan issues, while causing great distress to his
marriage to the heiress. After all Greenlee comes from boarding schools and cotillions
and the kid would be the polar opposite of that causing strife. It would also
add to that all important "Teen Summer Storyline" for the summer.
April 25, 2005 What's with Greenlee's need to have a baby now?
And getting Kendall involved? What is she nuts? Ryan has suffered a major trauma
concerning his family and she's pushing having a child. I totally get when Ryan
told her no kids but what I don't get is Greenlee's fixation on the issue. First
off if she and Ryan make it back to the bedroom she can trick him in to having
a child and the only thing to stop that plan would be a vasectomy. Second thing
I don't get is Greenlee is plagued by Ryan's announcement he doesn't want children
so she enlists the help of the least stable person she knows? She has to be on
medication. The third thing that bugged me was that Ryan said his family's gone...Hello
Erin can you hear me? Wouldn't it make sense that our damaged hero go seek his
sister out to protect her and love her like he should have protected Hockett.
Someone fire the Principle at PVHS she's a moron. She has had meetings with
Jackson about that fact that Autumn has been harassing Lily. Autumn was caught
in a lie that could have sent Reggie to Jail but this Principle seems to automatically
think the fight was Lily's doing. I say now that Jackson's Bar has been restored
he should sue the school and Autumn's rich daddy for harassment. The hallway was
loaded with students and the Principle doesn't ask one witness what happen...I
say fire that idiot. I love that Alicia Minshew has chemistry with every
potential love interest that they've set her up with but I'd love for the writers
to create that powerful love story. Kendall had passion with Ryan and Love and
Respect with Aidan. With Ethan she has the male mirror of herself. We the viewers
haven't been given time to rally around Kendall as part of a Classic Super Couple.
You know, that special couple that gets the reward of happiness after their long
painful struggle. Marrying Zach would incorporated a lot of people into the storyline
but their really needs to be a payoff in the end. Where's the romance in Pine
Valley. Jamie and Babe have been a no show recently and they are more the old
married couple. Where's the fire to fight for her son and her man. With the Adam's
health crisis storyline that seems to be on it's way I do not see any angst for
this couple. So I sit and wait for something incredible to happen in
the Valley. Right now it's snoresville. Krystal's in prison and everyone visits.
Brooke is....well I'm not really sure what Brooke's about these days she's so
hot and cold...she needs a man that's for sure. So I'm sitting and waiting and
waiting and sitting for something to happen. April 14, 2005
How about the last two episodes? This is the kind of writing I had dreamed
of! With one catch...I hate to see Jeff Branson leave because he's such a wonderful
actor. What I mean by "the kind of writing I dream of" is fast paced.
And how did they achieve this? Well with subtle clues months ago. This storyline
didn't seem to drag on waiting for a pay off; it was always in the distance. Ms.
McT and the gang lead us down this path of look over here so that we were distracted
from the man behind the curtain who was to be Jonathan all along. Whether this
was what the writers had intended for Jonathan or whether it evolved from other
factors (Maggie Leaving) the important thing is it was a big score storyline ways.
My second reason to love this bit of writing was the fact that it involved half
of the town. It basically was just a Ryan/Greenlee story when it started and it
just engulfed so many characters by the pay off. Kudos to the writers. Now we
wait to see how this affects everyone from Brooke to Zach. Now that JR
has become the newest version of Adam (supposedly). It's time to have him move
on because he went from evil dude extraordinary to spoiled rich kid who is having
a temper tantrum. It's too up and down for me. One moment he's giving this powerful
speech to Adam about how he put the hole in his heart and the next he's setting
David up at the hospital and stealing things from his house. I'm supposed to believe
this kid is mature enough to run Chandler Enterprises and be a member of the Hospital
board? They either need to keep him edgy and leave the softer side to him playing
with Little Adam. April 8, 2005 This week I watched JR
plot and strategize and try to exact revenge...yes again. When he set up Dr. "Mop-Boy"
Hayward with the stolen pills from the locked cabinet I thought yeah right. And
Anita let him hug her? What was that about? She has always seen through JR and
now she's letting him touch her. Yuck! What drives me crazy is that JR never gets
what's due. Joe sees JR trapped in his bungled attempt to frame David and gives
that lad a firm talking too? And hello the board of directors would seriously
consider dumping Adam (proven business man) for his twenty-something upstart son?
I know they've all been deprived of oxygen because that could be the only explanation.
(This rant is directed at the character of JR NOT at Jacob Young whom I totally
dig!). I did like Babe countering JR's evil doings with the truth that Dixie
would have sided with her in the custody fight if she was alive because she would
be ashamed of who her son has become. Great writing. I'd like to see more of Jamie
and Babe in JR's face because that seems to be the only retribution he gets for
his dastardly deeds...them being happy. A special shout out to Jeff Branston
aka Jonathan Lavery. How awesome is he playing a crazy guy...way awesome! And
Susan's Erica visiting Krystal in the who-scow was a trip. They've retired her
cell and she has a gold plaque, lol. Some one should call Krystal Carey and tell
her that Erica was in prison for stealing a child and telling the baby's mother
the child died and passed it off as her adopted daughter! Just for FYI, lol.
April 5, 2005 I was thinking today whilst watching the
show that they should so keep Sam Grey in town. Let me explain. All soaps thrust
forward with the teen storyline in the summer because well...the teens are home
and spending money at the mall. What I've always have had difficulty with is that
all the soaps either rush their "teen storylines" or in the case of
Bianca's prom had it happening in July which is to late and unusually drops like
a thud. I'd like to see Rebel Sam search for his identity or something (after
all he is a Martin). Maybe question why Joe and Ruth weren't more in his life
(they are his great-grandparents) and how about bonding with Jamie which would
link him to Reggie. Perhaps a rivalry with Reggie for Dani's affections is on
the ticket. It just makes sense to me to begin these summer stories now so that
the "back story" can be told and when the 13-21 yrs old demographic
is sprung from the halls of learning they will be able to pick up quickly and
the storyline would be more interesting for them. JMHO. The writers have lots
of kids to pick from so mixing and matching will be easy. I saw that they are
possibly casting Amanda Dillon. Not to sure the logic in this choice but hey I'm
not getting paid the big bucks to write the show, lol. (I say this because she
has no connection to anyone in town. At least Tim was Hayley's cousin).
Okay just how fabulous was Erica's hair and wardrobe today. So fabulous that I
made everyone stop working to take a look. Radiant as always Ms. Lucci but with
a sparkle of "You Go Girl"! April 2, 2005
Guess who I met today at a meet and greet. Well it was the one and only Ms.
Bobbie Eakes (aka Krystal Carey). And how fabulous was she...WAY! She was
gracious and wonderful. As a fan it was way neatorific because she answered everyone's
questions and was da coolest! If you get a chance to purchase her new CD "Something
Beautiful" do it because it's great (I'm listening right now!).
March 31, 2005 Yeah for Simone! She's back and funnier than
ever! It's really ashame they do not have her paired with Tad because between
Michael and Terri it would be laughs all around! I also love seeing more of the
families on the show. The Montgomery's rallying together. Then to see David and
Babe bonding pretty neat stuff also Jamie's interaction with Brooke and Tad is
note worthy. I really hope this trend continues. In the picky, picky, picky
department...how dumb are the women in the Valley. More to the point how stupid
are Kendall and Maria. They both know that Ethan wants to destroy Zach but even
after the evidence is pointing to a more probable suspect "Braedon"
they still continue to believe that Ethan is telling the truth. Is it
me or is the only person in town working is Simone. The poor women should be given
Fusion as a bonus just for keeping it a float, lol! And yes I'm still
missing Bianca and Maggie.... March 11, 2005 Okay I'm
seeing the forest through the trees on this JR thing. I see his vulnerability
now and it is that he hates not winning and being on top. I'm amazed at his connections
though and all of the money he has himself. If I were Adam I wouldn't let Junior
just have an open door to my bank accounts that's for sure. I thought it was strange
that he told Babe she was uneducated the other day (I believe he dropped out of
high school) and then it made sense yesterday when he showed Jamie his honorary
degree from PVU (JR believes that money and power can buy anything including an
education or happiness). And I loved the scene yesterday where Babe finally gets
(after talking to Stuart) that what she did was wrong no matter what the reasons.
The writing has be exceptional for the last couple of days, especially Zach.
Crisp (Zach), witty (Simone & Tad), desperation (Ryan, Greenlee and Maria)
and that hint of dasterdliness (JR and Ethan). I'm not really sure what's up with
Edmund's death because I thought his actual death was kind of flat as far as tugging
at the heart strings but the aftermath is kind of a nice twist that I haven't
seen before on the soaps. To watch Zach who's the persecuted in the storyline
to just take the guilt that isn't his so that he get the revenge on those he believes
deserve what they get is riveting. He's not a bad guy and he's certainly not a
good guy. And I love seeing Brooke more...wahoo. I really wasn't sure
I was going to continue to watch after Bianca and Maggie left the show but I can
see that Ms. McT and the posse have tried to not skip a beat with the storyline.
Taking in account that the episode where BAM takes off to Paris was a huge ratings
win for AMC (18-49 women) they wanted to build on this rather than go on business
as usual. I know that there are lots of storylines that the writers at AMC would
love to do but that TPTB just stomp their boot on their creative flow but over
all I see myself giving the group a chance to use their talents to shine with
what TPTB will let them write. I can only imagine what powerful and exciting stories
could be told if the Top Brass would just let the crew run free with their creativity.
Perhaps we would see something more original than the Murder/Trial formula that
is constant on every soap right now. in the picky, picky, picky
section....JR fought so hard for his son "because he loves him"(we know
it was really about winning) that he's spent no time with the lad. Until recently
he was unemployeed so he had loads of free time but instead he's running around
town doing the vendetta thing. And how stupid is Kendall that she can't see that
Ethan is becoming Michael? Sure things are subtle but helllllllooooo it started
like this with Michael. He was sweet and charming and then not so much anymore.
Sure Michael started out evil and was pretending with Kendall but she can see
what is happening to Ethan (being consumed by power and money) and the fact he's
not listening to her and after what happened with the Miranda Center well I'd
dump his crazy keyster. She should have pointed out when he said it was about
a sound business move, taking the construction team off the Miranda center to
work on another building, that it probably cost more money to pay the judge off
in JR's custody hearing than it would have been for them to finish the Miranda
Center. YES I KNOW....IT'S A SOAP! Lol. March 3, 2005 Hey
look at me I'm on a rant-a-polozza! This is the best part of having Ms. McT back
as head writer she gives a little bit of everything for the viewers to watch...Zach
agreeing with everyone that he did it all. He poisoned Greenlee, Killed Edmund
and shot at Ryan because they say so and then gives them the little twist at the
end that they will all be getting what they deserve! This is a wonderful twist
and finally gives me something to praise since I've been on a negative kick the
last couple of weeks. Even when the pieces do not fit Maria and Ryan desperately
hang on to the "truth" that Zach did it all and all on the say so of
Ethan who only wants to make his father pay. And how about Kendall and
her ex-now-best friend Greenlee going to David for assistance even though she
hates him because of what he did to Bianca and Miranda. Least we forget that Brooke
now has a storyline and is sitting on information that has the potential to either
destroy Maria or release her from her guilt. I've been keeping my fingers crossed
that Brooke got a storyline other than being worried about Jamie so hopefully
things will stay front burner for Julia Barr. Also snaps for give Joe some scenes.
March 2, 2005 Today I surfed around the message boards to see
what everyone was thinking and I discovered that most people think JR should have
custody of Little Adam/Baby James. It would seem that I'm in the minority of thinking
that this child would be better off somewhere else. Here are some of the points
I read.
-
JR never hurt "Bess" or Little Adam and has been a loving father.
- JR
has every right to be angry because Babe made him think his child was dead and
ran off with the boy. She somehow provoked him to the bad behavior.
- Babe
lied to Bianca about her child and kept her child from her which was worse than
anything JR had done.
| These
are interesting and valid points but I still think that JR has been written to
be the worst version of Adam. Revenge is now what guides him and he uses it to
dispense what he decides is Justice. (This is where Jacob Young is so powerful
as an actor). But when I read one post that basically said Jamie getting hit on
the head with a wrench was deserved because he provoked JR by telling him he'll
never see his little boy again it kind of made me cringe. No one deserves to be
almost killed for speaking, no matter how horrible the words are. And as far as
loving "Bess" lets be honest the man hid the child in a mental institution
just so Babe wouldn't be able to find her. I'm hoping (and am sure it will happen)
that JR will be forced into a situation where his revenge turns on him and it
puts either himself or Little Adam in peril and Babe or Jamie are the only hope
he has because to see the hate every day in this storyline is getting kind of
tough to watch. That brings me to Erica's outrage today in court. The
judge reminds Ms. Kane that Bianca agreed to the plea bargain. Here's my itch!
Erica kidnapped Maddie Grey and passed her off as her adopted daughter from Russia
named Sonia. She delivered Maria's baby and then told her that the child died.
She knowingly kept the child and let Maria believe her child was dead. She in
fact was the "Paul Cramer" of her story. Sure she went to jail, but
please now she's OUTRAGED. She talked of hearing her daughter scream when she
learned her child "died". This is the baby she never wanted Bianca to
give birth to. (She had her reasons at the time). It just seemed odd that Erica
wants to avenge her child after Bianca explained her reasons for testifying that
Babe should be the parent to raise the baby. She thought that growing up in the
Chandler house would do to Baby James what it did to Skye, Hayley and JR. She
also said she was tired of the vendettas. So color me confused and I'll
sit in my minority chair and wonder if JR will get a soul soon. I know
this is a long rant but just one more thing. Was anyone else let down by Edmund's
death? I was waiting for the drama usually associated with a death on soaps. Everyone
was so quiet and barely sad. I just wondered why John Callahan got such dry send
off? March 1, 2005 I felt this rant coming on as I watched
the show yesterday but had to take some time to collect my rant. First let me
say that this rant is no way directed at Jacob Young, he is a FANTASTIC actor
(sometimes the character and the actor can be confused in soapdom). It's just
that JR has been written to be the most awful human being around. He has no moral
compass. Sure he had Adam as an influence but he was raised with Dixie until he
was 16 and although Tad and Dixie had problems at the end and he went to live
with Adam his main influence was still Dixie. So now fast forward a couple of
years and here he is so much worse than Adam. Yes we need bad guys to hate but
now there is a plethora of bad guys. Point in question, Adam and Palmer arrive
to help JR gang up on Babe. Sure these guys hate her but Palmer taking sides with
the Chandlers because of Dixie? It wasn't but a few months ago that Palmer stepped
in against JR when he hid "Bess" at Oakhaven now he and Adam are slapping
each other on the back and having brandy? I don't get it. Sure Babe did all those
bad things but where is the follow up on the things that JR has done? And watching
Kendall with JR on friday made me wonder what the heck the writers are thinking.
Kendall knows what she heard and then the end result of what she heard in Florida.
JR and Bianca in a heated argument and then Bianca fighting for her life. She
know that he tried to run off with Miranda when he found out the truth that the
baby wasn't his. She saw the damage first hand he inflicted on Jamie in Florida
and throw in the fact that Bianca would rather the court give custody to Babe
than him should have been a red flag for this ingenue but alas she's under the
thrall of the dark prince apparently. Let us now move on to the other
baddies in town. Zach, Ethan and Jonathan also have been written to be so bad
you wonder if it's safe to live in Pine Valley anymore. And the good guys in town
like Ryan are reduced to fodder by the manipulations of the bad boys. There is
just too much hate going on in the Valley right now for my tastes that's for sure.
It would be fine if there was something to balance this writing out but for the
last couple of weeks it will just be "Revenge-a-pooloza"!
Also I'd like to address the huge cast gap that has occurred on the show. Liz,
Eden, John and possibly Eva all leaving the show. And with the storyline effectively
going no where for the next couple of weeks while they write around all of the
holes I'm thinking I'll be bored because as I see it we will be seeing the "Murder
Mystery" (yawn) or the aftermath of the baby swap storyline which will be
reduced to Babe fighting for her son and JR being a subhuman being. And of course
there is always the return of Braedon (yet another bad guy). I'm really hoping
I'm wrong and of course I will watch but sometimes it's just frustrating as a
viewer/fan especially when the writing stellar writing team now at AMC is capable
of so much more than what they are writing now. Who knows maybe this is a management
problem, lol. February 22, 2005 Where
do I begin my rant since this was probably the dumbest installment I've seen in
2 years!Let me begin with Zach...Muscle Man Cool Guy. This is something I never
realized about Mr. Slater Cambias...He's actually Superman! With only a candlestick/lamp
pole (not sure what it was he used) he managed to crash through cinder block to
allow his ladylove to escape their entrapment and rush home to her loving husband.
I say Maria dump Eddie and marry this guy because when you need to clean behind
the fridge he'll be very handy to have around. Now
lets talk about Edmund.who didn't see this coming, gasp! He can walk! What I'm
really not happy with is that this decent into madness is exactly what they did
to Chris Stamp. Hi I'm a happy health basically mentally stable guy but because
my lady love is cheating on me I become an irrational nut case? Edmund dragged
Maria out of the mind of Maureen S. Gorman. Tormented her until she remembers
who she was and the LOVE they shared. This is how much Edmund loved Maria. But
when she doesn't forget the Maureen days and is attracted to another man Edmund
becomes a psycho? If this couple was in their teens or twenties I would be able
to buy this emotional roller coaster but hello they have two children! Maybe it's
just the same "decent into madness" storyline all over again I Don't
like. Okay
now for the big rant! Is Judge Turner written to be high on crack? Let's see the
facts. JR and Babe are both considered horrible parents by Judge Turner. Okay
fine but did she hear the testimony of practically everyone in town. Even Bianca
whose child was kept from her said that Babe would be a better parent and explained
why. The parents who raised the baby (Kelly & Kevin) both felt it best that
the child be given to Babe. The stepfather of JR (Tad) thought the child should
be given to Babe as well. Other than Erica and Kendall who believed the child
should go to JR and who weren't great witnesses (Erica's implication that JR had
something to do with Bianca's fall) no one said JR would be a better parent. So
of course the judge would rule that Babe gets 3 hours supervised visits and JR
takes his trophy of victory home. Frankly both of these parents should be supervised
with this child. Daddy's a deranged megalomaniac and Mama.well she has problems
with breaking the law. I say parenting classes are needed in the Chandler home.
Again I know this is a Soap but where is the justice in all of this, the
big pay off if you will? JR walks away with custody of his son and spits on everyone
and everything. I could only hope that Dixie comes back from the dead or haunts
this SOB Adam clone because frankly I'm tired of watching him be a horrible human
being and constantly being rewarded for it. I have no sympathy for this character
and frankly I fell like they are writing him to try to make him softer but with
all that he's done since coming back to town with not one payback or him understanding
that you can't hurt people is kind horrible to watch. At first I was all there
with the "bad guy" thing but now I just cringe when I see it on my TV
screen. I'm thinking this isn't the response the writers were going for. Part
of this is because Jacob Young is such a powerful actor and makes JR believably
mean, manipulative and when the topic of Dixie comes up so soft. Or Maybe it's
that ingredient that JR is missing that Adam always had to balance him out when
he was beyond evil and that for Adam was Stuart. Without that well JR is just
a bad person who does bad things to people he doesn't like just because he can.
February 15, 2005 My frustration is reality vs.
Pine Valley. It's amazing that William Christian isn't frustrated playing Derek
Frye because it seems that Derek never has enough to hold would-be criminals on.
After giving her account on what happened with Jonathan, Derek tells her that
he can't old him on any charges...um...here's one...false imprisonment or endangering
a child. These are real charges and this is my frustration, the soap isn't real,
lol! So Jackson turns to Maggie to press charges and after Ryan begs her to let
him "SAVE" his brother she tells Derek she's not pressing charges against
Jonathan for hitting her. Was Maggie in the room with Larraine when she told her
that the only reason she came to visit Maggie was she was afraid that Jonathan
would beat up another woman like he did her and she'd feel guilty about it? Granted
Mags is leaving the burg soon but this makes no sense. Jackson reminding good
old Ryan that the last brother he wanted to "SAVE" ended up raping his
sister Kit. So now to my second branch of frustration. Ryan is so desperate to
save Jonathan that despite all he knows about what Jonathan has done and what
he is capable of doing he still practically did a cheer when he realized that
Bianca's story wouldn't put Jonathan in jail. It's amazing that Ryan is the only
person who "knows" Jonathan and with all of the manipulation he's seen
Jonathan do he still dumps on Greenlee that she's afraid of him for thinking he
did poison her. Good thing Binx is leaving town...with friends like this it's
a wonder she's survived for 5 years! I do realize the writers are trying
to give Ryan an edge to make him more interesting but sometimes they way they
do it is alarming. It also amazes me that for 5 years they've tread on eggshells
about giving Bianca a love interest who actually kisses and has love scenes but
we are inundated with Murder and Violence and well...that's okay because it's
not as controversial as Binx having sex. Kind of sick what that says about society
as well. Love bad...murder and violence...good. Yikes!!!! Here ends my rant for
today. February 9, 2005 I know what you are thinking...ranting
again Jenn....but of course my fine fellows. I'll probably be ranting a lot until
Bianca and Maggie leave the Valley. How strong was Maggie yesterday...and what
I loved most was when she told Jonathan she wasn't sure she ever really loved
him. Everything she said was true. She was upset when she thought Binx slept with
Babe and he was the first person she found. He saw her fragile vulnerability and
jumped on it. But now that she discovers that he's basically been working of a
script she never really knew "him" just the version he's created. Why
do I think this is so important, allow me to share further...How are we to believe
that Maggie who's about to elope one second could want to be with Bianca? This
also clears up another matter that I was having a problem with...Maggie has always
been the pillar of strength having survived the type of childhood that Jonathan
did but she went in a different direction than he did and that Frankie did; so
I was kind of shocked that she of all people would have been snowed by his manipulations.
But again the writers gave us a plausible situation and I can't argue with that.
So as each day passes I have more anxiety of the last days of BAM. Liz and Eden
are going to be missed! In the picky, picky, picky department. Chris
Stamp was a stand up guy until the writers killed him off. They made him a paranoid
jealous accessory of Erica's. So this new tweaking of the history of the show
that Ryan isn't Chris' son doesn't wash for me. Chris told the story of Ryan's
conception....the letter from Ryan's mom....the picture of them together. He was
proud to call Ryan son. He gave Ryan a picture of his parents....Ryan's family.
Told the lad that he was whisking Erica off to Italy to propose to her like his
father took his mother to Italy to ask her father for her hand in marriage. So
here we are with his Journal years later and he just happens to mention that he
lied to Ryan and that he's not his father. I don't buy it...poor rewrite of the
story. Not to mention Jonathan and Ryan's real last name is CURRY not Lavery.
Again...When Ryan met Anna Devane they talked about Duke and Ryan's mother being
cousins. Ryan's mother's maiden name was Lavery. Granted if my dad was an S.O.B.
I too would change my name but when they do all this referencing to being a "Lavery"
shouldn't they really be angry with being a CURRY. also....Does anyone
find it as strange as I do that Erica still lives in the Penthouse over the Enchantment
offices? I mean we hear so much about "New Beginnings" and here she
is living over Enchantment...wouldn't that be weird going to your car everyday.
Hi former employees...I'm heading to me new venture, New Beginnings where we are
going to sell...umm...stuff...Ciao! I also enjoyed today seeing Zach's
flashback of Alexander trying to control his life and Ryan's flashback of Patrick
trying to destroy his and then the two adversaries meet up and get into a fight.
Definitely a classic. So ends my rant. February 8, 2005
How creepy is Jonathan? How obnoxious and mean is JR? VERY and VERY!
Jeff and Jacob take crazy and mean to a whole new level. This new generation of
bad guys is great to watch. With the snappy writing we've got now and these talented
actors to deliver the lines things are interesting to watch. And to see Ethan
getting drunk on power has been worth watching as well. I like quick pace storylines
but this is one that must be slow to come about because it would be more interesting
seeing him swallowed by his fortune and all that is Cambias than for him to be
saved by Kendall before we get to see the pursuit of madness happen. Another storyline
that is moving way to quickly due to the exit of the principle characters/Actors
is Bianca and Maggie. I love the pace of telling the story but what I'd like to
see to make them going off into the sun set together is Maggie save Bianca from
Jonathan and then the two realizing they are a team in all ways and then leave.
But I fear from the hype from Mr. Frons and Ms. McT about the fact that BAM fans
will finally get what they want is just that...HYPE. One kiss that Bianca gives
Maggie isn't what we want we want them to be happy and in love. Maggie kisses
Bianca...Bianca kisses Maggie...when do they both kiss each other because they
love each other? What's with Edmund leaving the show and this Murder
Mystery I keep hearing about? Two things first, I would play Eddie being "murdered"
all the while letting the viewers know he's not dead and have John Callahan take
like a two month vacation while the story is laid out. Then have Brooke set out
to pick up Edmund's story to discover who killed her friend and ex-husband. This
would throw Aidan and Tad into the mix. Zach and Maria get to play house with
no guilt and have her children meddle in her life. What's odd is why would anyone
kill Edmund? I could come up with five people off the top of my head from past
storylines but hey I'm not writing the show! LOL. February 2, 2005
Happy Ground Hog Day! I like so many others am reeling from the upcoming
exit of Liz and Eden (Maggie & Bianca) on 2/24. These are two characters that
will leave a void in the show but I'm going to stick with the show and see what
comes next. I must say that I totally enjoyed today's episode where Bianca sees
JR for the manipulator he is and doesn't give in or play his game. And to see
Erica totally snowed by his "victim" act regardless of what he did before
he discovered his son was alive was amazing. I will miss the softness that Bianca
brings to other characters like Erica who wants revenge and Bianca only wants
peace. Kudos to Susan, Eden and Jacob for their exceptional work today.
Two things I've been digging for awhile but are note worthy again. They are the
snappy writing and the wonderful sets. Alot has been put into both the last couple
of months so SNAPS!!! Picky, Picky, Picky...Sure Erica's got New Beginnings
and I'm stuck in the past but how is it NO ONE has challenged the take overs of
their companies? No trials or stockholder protest. And again I go back to how
if Erica or Adam own controlling interest in their companies that Cambias Industries
can just take over? Cambias wouldn't own controlling interest just a large portion
of stock. Like Chandler Industries because what Adam didn't own in stock JR, Hayley,
Skye, Colby, Liza and Stuart would more than make up for. And hello Fusion Girls
losing their company because Simone accepted an email draft to transfer $500,000
dollars into their account? What's this besides bad writing (old writers) but
I'm not getting over it. YES I DO REALIZE IT IS SOAP, LOL!
January 27, 2005 Today I read some sad news for me...not so much
for Eden. Eden Riegel who plays Bianca Montgomery is leaving AMC. Word is her
last air date is 2/24. She will be missed but I know she'll do very well in LA
and we wish her well. This will leave a huge hole in AMC. We haven't seen the
likes of a character like Bianca since Jenny Nelson and that was twenty years
ago. Now I'm left with the same problem I faced in 1993 when Ellen Parker left
Guiding Light...Do I still want to watch the show? Although I think the show is
smartly written these days the truth of the matter is I was drawn to the show
because of Leo and Bianca. I loved their friendship. Leo "died" and
Bianca's leaving. When Maureen was killed off on GL I just had not interest. I
dragged out watching the show for a year but then I just stopped watching. I once
watched As The World Turns but then my favs were either boated off the show or
the Actors decided to leave (which I totally understand and would never begrudge
them their success). But the shows weren't the same for me any more. Rumor mill
has it that Liz Hendrickson may also be departing AMC too. Honestly I think I
could be engaged into watching if Brooke had a meaty story or they replenish some
of the families. So here I sit and wonder. January 25, 2005
It's a new day in the world of Ranting. Who loves Aidan's new place? Oh yeah...me!
Kudos to the set designers. I do have a question though...If Aidan lives at his
office where's the bed and kitchen? I'm guessing once he and Anita become closer
we'll find out. So Bobby has run off with Edmund's money...I say good for him
Eddie's been way to pompous lately. I don't know about you but Tad's
calm demeanor is really getting on my nerves. The best he can say to JR is I'm
disappointed in you son or Dixie would have been disappointed in him. No yelling
or screaming just calm discussions about how much JR has become Adam. JR has tried
to kill Jamie twice, Babe once, Bianca once and then shoots at Tad...I'm sorry
but Tad seems to be in a coma or something. He and Dixie fought to protect him
from Adam and he's just resigned to the fact that JR is a bad man like his father.
I'm not so sure what has happened to Tad but he needs to get a fire under him
and soon! JMHO. The writers need to cut Michael loose so we can see how much Tad
would do to save his other son! January 11, 2005 This
is a weird rant...well weirder than normal. I love the pace that the show is going
now. I'm a fan of quicker moving stories...YEAH! Here's my rant...JR...He's evil
and he gets away with everything. Why??? And Tad just taking his garbage?? My
problem is just that my problem...the storyline is fine but I think I'm not the
only one who wants someone to slap the tar out of JR. He's all about being the
one hurt but as Tad pointed out today he did hurt Jamie, twice, and Bianca and
oh yeah...drugged and nearly killed Babe but he gets off scott free. Okay now
for the reality portion of my rant...I know that the writers are setting JR up
for a fall. Jacob Young's scenes yesterday where he totally scams Bianca into
confirming JR's son is alive...WONDERFUL. And then to tell Bianca that she's going
to hell for keeping his son from him after he basically tells her that he pushed
her off the balcony in Florida to keep her away from "Bess". I'm telling
you that Jacob had better win the Emmy this year! So I'll watch and wait for JR's
downfall. Picky, Picky, Picky...yep I'm being picky...JR wanting to name
his son Adam Chandler III? He's been reminding his father over and over that he
betrayed him but hey Pops I'll name my son after you...what are they going to
call the tike Trip or Trey? But I know this is to be determined later by the writers...I
personally like James. January 5, 2005 Wow 35 years
on television and all they could muster for a celebration was having 4 cast mates
come back to the show? I guess throwing in Agnes Nixon was the big bonus and as
much as I loved seeing them all why were there no flashbacks no remembrances?
A story here and a story there and some tongue in check jokes but no rush of history,
no heartwarming moments with the exception of the letter from Mona that mentioned
in it the opening of the show. I was really disappointed and kept waiting for
the moments to come but they never did with the exception of a 2/3 minute musical
montage. Now I know how the fans of GH felt when they were cheated of a good anniversary
show! This show was like the everyday storyline and should have been
a special standing alone. I was very disappointed and did feel very much cheated
so I dug out the 25th Anniversary show that took two days to show and gave us
2 hours of some wonderful moments on All My Children. Too bad I was more entertained
by a show from 1995 than I was from a show 10 years later. Better luck next time,
eh. January 4, 2005 This is a weird entry but I had
to post it. When JR was taking off with Miranda in his car on 12/24 did anyone
but me notice that he had an EZ Pass on his windshield? Or when Maria and Zach
were chatting and groping in the stables the sounds of the horses in the background?
I love the attention to detail and just had to mention it! Go Team! |
